Training
The
Surgery has been a training practice since 2000
and over the years has gradually built up
its training repertoire, having in the past
assisted in the training of practice nurse and pharmacists.
Our current focus is on the training of Registrars and Medical
students. We regard this as an important part of our function as it not only gives the practice an opportunity for engagement in education, but also in
ensuring that Doctors trained in Wales want to
stay in Wales, thereby securing the future of practices such
as ourselves.
We are currently aspiring to extend our training repertoire and are hoping to start training Doctors such as those who are just starting in medicine or those that need further training. In addition to our training expertise, two of the practice Doctors are also appraisers, appraising and offering advice to established GPs undergoing annual developmental appraisal.
Medical Students
Tynycoed Surgery is involved in the teaching of medical students from Swansea University (a four year graduate-entry medicine course). First and second-year students attend for a number of sessions throughout the year whilst fourth-years are based in the surgery for four-week attachments. Teaching surgeries are run by all the GP partners and you may be offered an appointment for one of these sessions-please be aware that one or two medical students may be present during your consultation and may be asked to take a medical history from you or examine you under close supervision from the GP. Students find these sessions extremely useful and we are grateful to our patients for participating in a vital part of their training. There is, of course, no obligation to see students and reception staff will be happy to find you an alternative appointment if you prefer.
