Friends of Tynycoed
The Friends of Tyn-y-Coed Surgery started out some twenty years ago, when a group of patients joined together with the aim of supporting the surgery in any way they could. Over the years the people involved have changed, but the aim has remained the same: to raise funds for extra services and equipment and to make patients’ experience of visiting the surgery the best it can possibly be.
The Friends’ fund raising activities are wide ranging and have included everything from sponsored swims to our very popular Ladies’ Pampering Evenings. The regular book sales are also a great success. Patient donations have added to the funds raised over the years, as have donations from the St Brides Minor Community Council and the Sarn & Bryncethin Community Association.
Money raised has enabled us to buy pressure cushions, screens for the waiting room, an ECG, machine and nebulisers for our asthma patients – all items that benefit patients.
In addition to these activities, the Friends also support the Surgery in organising health information evenings. We are happy to listen to patients’ comments on the services provided by the Surgery, and to pass these on.
The Friends of Tyn-y-Coed are always looking for other people to join the group. It isn’t necessary to attend every monthly meeting; in fact if you can’t come along at all, but have a good idea, please tell us. Our latest project is to raise £1,500 for an ambulatory blood pressure machine, which will mean that patients do not have to go to the hospital to be equipped with one.
If you would like to be involved, or to have more details, please contact Scott Moore (practice manager), 01656720334
