History of Tynycoed.
Tynycoed, which translates as ‘House in the Woods’ initially started in Aberkenfig in the early 1950s out of the home of Dr Jeffrey Jones in Pandy Road. He was joined by Dr Blair Morgan in the early 1960s and then by Dr J. Mason-Williams in 1980.
Sarn clinic gradually became the main surgery site and when Dr Jones retired in 1987, Dr R Barrett joined. In 1990 the practice took over the patients of the retiring Dr John Lewis and as a result of the increased list size, Dr S Rees became a partner. The practice moved to its current purpose built site in 1992, shortly followed by the closure of the branch surgery at Pandy Road. Dr R Morgan was appointed in 1996 and over time the practice population steadily increased necessitating a small extension to the building and the appointment of two new part time partners – Dr S Jones in 2002 and Dr J Richards in 2005. Over time, steadily increasing demand for services, combined with teaching commitments and use of rooms by attached staff and other health professionals meant that we needed to extend the building again. In 2011 Dr J. Mason-Williams had to retire on grounds of ill health and Dr J Simpson was appointed as replacement partner in 2012. After a protracted process, the Dr John Mason-Williams’ suite was officially opened by its namesake in 2014. The new extension also provides accommodation for the local pharmacy. We now provide services for a list size of approx 10,000 patients and in 2015 appointed Dr M Neale as our newest partner.
